Privacy Policy

AirClip ("we", "us", "our") is a clipboard synchronisation application developed by Riya Jain. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. We built AirClip with a privacy-first philosophy: sync is strictly opt-in, clipboard content is never read or stored by our servers, and you can delete your account and all associated data at any time.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed version of your password (we use Argon2id — your plaintext password is never stored or transmitted after the login request).

1.2 Device Information

When you register a device, we store a random device ID (UUID generated on your device), the device name you assign, the platform (macOS, Windows, Linux, Android, iOS), and the app version. We do not collect your device's hardware serial number, IMEI, or any persistent hardware identifier.

1.3 Clipboard Metadata

When sync is enabled, we store the following metadata about each clipboard event on our servers:

  • A unique event ID and SHA-256 content hash (for deduplication)
  • Content type (Text, Image, File, etc.)
  • Size in bytes
  • Origin device ID
  • Timestamp
  • Retention class (standard, pinned, etc.)

We do not store the actual content of your clipboard. Text content is stored locally on your devices only. Image and file content is uploaded directly to cloud object storage (AWS S3) using a URL that only your devices can read.

1.4 Usage Data

We collect basic server-side logs (timestamp, HTTP status code, endpoint) for operational purposes. These logs do not contain clipboard content, passwords, or tokens. Logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days.

1.5 What We Do NOT Collect

  • The text content of your clipboard
  • Contacts, location, microphone, or camera data
  • Browsing history or activity outside AirClip
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID)
  • Biometric data

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Account management — to authenticate you and manage your session
  • Clipboard synchronisation — to route clipboard events between your devices and team members
  • Device management — to list and revoke your registered devices
  • Security — to detect suspicious activity and enforce rate limits
  • Service improvement — aggregated, anonymised usage statistics only

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.

3. Sync Is Opt-In

Clipboard sync is disabled by default. Nothing leaves your device until you explicitly enable sync in the app. When sync is disabled, AirClip operates entirely locally — no network requests are made to our servers.

4. Data Storage & Security

4.1 Infrastructure

Our backend services run on Google Cloud (us-central1). Clipboard image and file content is stored on AWS S3 (ap-south-1, Mumbai). Databases are hosted on a private PostgreSQL instance. All connections use TLS 1.3.

4.2 On-Device Storage

All clipboard history is stored in an SQLite database on your device. Device credentials (device ID, access token) are stored in the app's private storage directory — not in the system keychain. The database is accessible only to the AirClip application.

4.3 Data Retention

  • Clipboard metadata on our servers: 90 days by default, configurable per account
  • Image and file content on S3: matches your configured retention period
  • Account data: retained until you delete your account
  • Server logs: 30 days

5. Teams Feature

If you create or join a team, the following additional information is shared with team members:

  • Your display name and email address (visible to team members)
  • Clipboard events you send to the team (metadata only — content follows the same rules as §1.3)

You can leave a team at any time. Team owners can delete the team, which removes all associated shared clipboard history from our servers.

6. Third-Party Services

AirClip uses the following third-party services:

We do not integrate any analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or social media trackers into the app.

7. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access — you can view your account information in the app's Settings screen
  • Correction — you can update your email or password in Settings
  • Deletion — you can delete individual clipboard items, or delete your entire account by contacting us at dev@jainriya.in. Account deletion removes all your data from our servers within 30 days.
  • Portability — your local clipboard history is stored in a standard SQLite database at a known path on your device
  • Revoke device access — you can revoke any device session from the Settings screen ("Sign Out All Other Devices")
  • Disable sync — you can turn off sync at any time from the app; no data will leave your device while sync is off

8. Children's Privacy

AirClip is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately at dev@jainriya.in and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you via the app or by email. Continued use of AirClip after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
